One of our product ranges is scale model South African Railways trains. We use various techniques to manufacture the models. The techniques include 3D modelling, rapid prototyping laser cutting, CNC machining, brass etching, building by hand and of course, resin casting.

Resin is a stunning material to use because it captures detail beautifully. Resins can be cast clear, transluscent or opaque. A resin is chosen for the particular need. Clear resins can be used to encapsulate Leds, opaque resins to be painted later. Some resins work extremely well for model making. We normally use a resin called F18. The resin has a suitable pot life and curing time. We make many many parts using resins.

We use open molds and multi-part moulds depending on the item to be molded. Seeing that we have a laser, we simply design and cut a suitable mold box so as to save costs.
